The world's largest exhibition devoted to Shakespeare. Admission includes a guided tour of the Globe Theatre (and a visit to the rose archaeological site, located only a short distance away, during matinee performances). The original Globe Theatre was built in 1599 and provided the set for many of Shakespeare's plays during the reign of Elizabeth I. It burnt down in 1613 when, during a performance of Henry VIII, a cannon being used as a prop fired an ember into the thatched roof of the theatre.
